Water strider
Once upon a time, it was you
Whom I admired, maybe desired
To be, to the point of envy, jealousy
Maintaining an internally raging
Sea of self dejection and perceived
Imperfection
Water strider
Once upon a time, I pondered
Nay, demanded, why I could not
As you do, float upon the water top
(Unperturbed) by the silken winds
Or forced to fall under, as a current
Begins
Water strider
Once upon a time I glared
At the barren summer (sun)
And I questioned why my flesh
Under its rays should suffer, but yours
Speckled with morning dew, instead
Glistens
Water strider
Once upon a time, I wanted, so badly
To traipse across the water top
Among the lily pads and the minnows,
Light and delicate, enviably imitating
The long sought after powers of God
Himself
But no more…
Water strider
This time, I will do more than you
Rather than blissfully unaware
Approaching this sacred earth
And (abusing/taking advantage of) its great wonders
And most of all, the power it so gracefully
Bequeathed
Water strider
This time will watch with eyes,
Most eager, almost in sin, as a wind
Gusts with such force, the waves
Under your so carefully placed (feet?)
Overcome the tops and send you
Scurrying
Water strider
This time I will help move the water
So fierce, with my aptitude
And vigor, my potential
No longer shadowed by your petty
Successes and magic
Tricks
Water strider
This time, as you scurry about,
Among bitter waves and turbulent
Lily pads. Abandoned by your minnow
Companions. Left alone at the mercy
Of one. Big. Hungry.
Fish.
Water strider
When said marine (dweller)
Opens its great mouth beneath your
Fragile, poorly designed frame
And you, never again, taint my field
Of vision. Upon my sadistic lips
A smile
Water strider
Once upon a time you stood
Upon the (adj) mirror, such pride
In those legs, but little thought
In your feeble mind. So you were
With substantial warning
Crushed
